Like many glass artists, my love for glass began with making stained glass panels and mosaics. This lasted for about 18 months. Then in September of 2003, I took a lampwork bead making class and it completely changed my direction.
I've found that I prefer the more instant gratification of making beads. I can sit down at the torch and create a bead within minutes to a couple of hours. Most of my stained glass projects would take me days to complete.
Although I have been known to make bead sets, I have found that I prefer to make focal beads. Generally, they are larger and allow for more detail to be added. They also allow me to move from idea to idea more quickly.
Along the way, I have been fortunate to learn from some great instructors. Below is a list of the classes I have taken, and ones I am looking forward to:
March 2005 - Jeri Warhaftig Sandblasting Beads
July 2005 - Michael Barley & Andrea Guarino Use of precious metals, creating custom colors and finding your own design voice.
September 2005 - Phil Teefey Glass Casting
March 2006 - Bob Snodgrass Boro Glass - Beads, Pendants and Marbles
Future Classes:
May 2006 - Shirley Webster Working with dichroic
November 2006 - Kate Fowle Melaney Is This Glass - enamels, ceramic overglazes, fuming, electroforming and engraving. |
